Government simplifies access to contracts for SMEs

Business Market

The Government has published its Selling To Government Guide, giving SMEs essential information on how to bid for and win the £50bn worth of public contracts. Released to mark Small Business Saturday, the guide includes advice on where business owners can look online contract opportunities and offers tips on how firms can ensure they are showcasing their strengths when making a bid. It also explains how businesses can secure work through supply chains by working with larger companies. Cabinet Office Minister Lord Agnew said the guide will help small businesses “navigate what can be a complex world of public procurement”. He also noted that ministers are rolling out “sweeping procurement rules changes, to make it easier and more flexible for SMEs to win government work.” This will see the bidding process made simpler, with a single central platform which suppliers have to register on. Small Business Crown Representative Martin Traynor said: “We are fully committed to breaking down barriers for SMEs who want to supply to the Government either directly or in the supply chain.”
